We are indeed in strange times and I just wanted to bring you up to speed on my thinking right now.

I would like you to know that I’m cancelling all work which requires me to travel to the city on the underground and any planned workshops which require travel via public transport by me or by students.

I’m narrowing my teaching down to what is local to me and you to limit risk to us all.

At the Royal Free, we will stop using hand weights for the foreseeable future. Feel free to bring your own with you - particularly if you have bone density issues and it’s important that you weight bare.

Alternatively bring sanitising wipes if you are lucky enough to be able to get some - I’ve tried to but to no avail!

I’d be grateful if you could all bring an old pillowcase with you to place over cushions and blocks - even over balls. You may also want to bring a rug, towel etc to cover the mat.
Remember, it’s hand to face contact that we need to most mitigate against - hence I’m excluding the use of shared dumbbells.

Please wash your hands before coming in to class and on the way out as we have been instructed to do.

If you fall into the ‘at risk’ category, i.e. that you are over 70 (70 is the new 60 as far as I’m concerned) and/or you have an underlying health issue / compromised immune system, then i would advise you to stay at home for now. Equally, if you feel under the weather or anxious about the Coronavirus, stay at home.

We all know that stopping exercising and moving is not good for us, so let’s keep going unless the the advice changes. Plus, we need to look after our mental health as best we can - and being marooned at home is not good in that respect unless it really becomes a necessity.

Please feel free to email me if you’re unsure about whether to come to class or not. I’m also happy to give advice about movements to do at home if you feel you fit into the vulnerable category.

I will keep you updated should the advice we’re getting change. In the meantime, I wish you all well  and look forward to seeing you in these strange times - coming together has never felt more important.

Let’s stay calm and please contact me for more advice if you need to

Very best wishes,
